Hendersonville Medical Centers Dr. Marcos Cruz Attains Board CertificationMarch 4, 2009 Hendersonville Medical Center physician Marcos J. Cruz, MD, was recently Board Certified in Neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. A neurologist is a medical doctor who is trained in diagnosing and treating nervous system disorders. To be eligible to sit for the board certification examination, a neurologist must have completed medical school, a one-year internship in either internal medicine or medicine/surgery and at least three years of specialty training in an accredited neurology residency program. Dr. Cruz received his medical doctorate from New York Medical College and worked on his internship and residency in Pediatrics at the University Pediatric Hospital in Puerto Rico. He completed one year in adult neurology fellowship at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and moved on to a two-year stint at St. Christophers Hospital for Children in Philadelphia for the child neurology part of his fellowship. Before joining the medical staff at Hendersonville Medical Center last summer as a neuro-hospitalist, Dr. Cruz had served as Neonatal Intencivist at St. Marys Medical Center in Langhorne, Pennsylvania, and as a hospitalist at Doylestown Hospital in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. Dr. Cruz is currently completing further fellowship studies with an epilepsy focus at Vanderbilt. He plans to open his private neurology practice for both children and adults in Hendersonville in summer 2009. Dr. Cruz is an integral member of our medical staff, and we are so excited for him to have achieved this milestone, said Regina Bartlett, RN, Chief Executive Officer at Hendersonville Medical Center.
